The office luchterhandt & partner has provided comprehensive project support for Construction Site 97 in Baakenhafen, where rental and owner-occupied flats of various sizes are being built for a mixed population of all age groups, taking into account individual lifestyles, including the Heimatmole. The services provided included everything from land acquisition and assembling the applicant consortium to implementing the architectural competitions. Kiezkompanie supported the Heimatmole building community as construction supervisor until completion.
What surprised you about the collaboration with zillerplus on the Heimatmole project?

As a process supervisor, I have a neutral role in which the best result for the respective constellation takes centre stage. There were several points that surprised me during the planning and construction process for Heimatmole:
Firstly, the presence of the zillerplus office, even across the distance between Hamburg and Munich, and secondly, the speed and professionalism in addressing the issues, with a clear assignment of responsibilities and efficient organisation. Constructive suggestions were made when personal interests were tricky to weigh up in the design, without losing one's own stance. This fosters a collegial atmosphere throughout all phases.
In the dialog-oriented approach of our planning process, joint learning is an important aspect. It is out of place and downright arrogant to tell others how they should live.
The zillerplus way of working is first about listening and truly understanding the needs of the other side – and then, perhaps, making suggestions on how certain supposed circumstances might be changed. This requires serenity, but also an enormous amount of knowledge, commitment and the courage to engage with the issues of our time, especially in the housing sector.
It's advantageous to be a team player – and to get people excited about your topics. For me, that's what zillerplus stands for.
‘Moving cities’ is the motivation behind our work. The office luchterhandt & partner advocates for the sustainable development of our cities and communities, aims to inspire and encourage critical dialogue in planning and building culture. We plan and design spaces for people, coordinate competitions, concept awards and traditional tendering procedures with great passion for the high-quality implementation of building projects. Kiezkompanie was founded to support building communities from brainstorming to moving in. Because we know from our own experience the challenges, opportunities – but also the fears. We know that building can be fun, and even more so in a good community!
