Heimatmole in the Yearbook 'Architecture in Hamburg 2025/26'
Jan. 28, 2026
Shortly before the turn of the year, the Hamburg Chamber of Architects published its new yearbook “Architecture in Hamburg 2025/26“. We are delighted that our building community project Heimatmole is featured in it on four pages under the title ‘Faltung zur Elbe | Baugemeinschaft im Baakenhafen’. In mid-July 2025, Michael Ziller gave author Maja Huesmann a tour of the building in HafenCity.
Many thanks to the Hamburg Chamber of Architects and Maja Huesmann for their excellent cooperation.
The building is oriented east-west at an angle to the Elbe River, which zillerplus cleverly utilised to fold the inner courtyard side so that each apartment has a direct view of the river. The folding effect is reinforced by the balconies, which meander in a zigzag pattern along the living spaces and lend the building its striking character with impressive finesse.
We looked at communal living and the question of how to create quality of life in the densely populated eastern part of HafenCity. This gave rise to the three themes of the construction project: greenery, control room and community.
