The fascination of the vernacular
Instead of reflecting intensively on the roots of action, society is often tempted by the constant search for innovation, the unprecedented in form and materiality. zillerplus is different. We draw our inspiration from traditional agglomerations that have often evolved for pragmatic and functional reasons and have grown locally. Our challenge is to transform the buildings in these agglomerations and to give them a new lease of life through a new spatial structure and use. For the central question is: How does architecture react appropriately to the urban context of a development that in some cases has evolved over centuries? Where does the new need to blend in, but where does it create a new identity and centre on its own? The combination of nature and technology is not a contradiction for zillerplus but – ideally – a symbiosis and meaningful complement.

The commonplace fascinates us. Pragmatic, often developed for functional reasons, the mature, developed context inspires us. At second glance too.
Love at second glance is profound and honest.
We can become enthusiastic about things that appear unsexy at first glance: unfavourable land layouts, mediocre buildings, high energy efficiency or emission control requirements. The challenge is our motivation. And even in difficult situations, ways can be found to take in the existing context and develop it further: The right idea for redesignation and repurposing helps a written-off property to find a new life. We all bear social responsibility for a future with challenges such as mobility, resource protection and population growth, rural exodus or urbanisation.
More good and less glamour.
What’s the use of iconic architecture if it exceeds the scope and budget, disregards the context, and ultimately ends up unloved? For zillerplus, the focus is on good design – well-thought-out processes, intelligent structures and high-quality construction. Our signature does not manifest in fixed design paradigms but in the best possible implementation of the construction task assigned to us. This includes understanding the perspectives of others and solving the various tasks in our role as mediator, advisor, designer, planner, .... Therefore, zillerplus stands for the big picture and for collaboration at eye level.
