The refurbishment work on the Yellow Block in Munich-Schwabing is making visible progress. Now that the first scaffolding has been removed, the newly renovated façade can be seen in its entirety for the first time. This is an important milestone - especially for the residents, as the building will remain inhabited throughout the entire construction period, which is a particular challenge for everyone involved.

Installation of the new balconies is also starting in time for the start of the outdoor season. A total of around 120 steel balconies will be installed. ‘The pandemic in particular has shown that there is a great desire for balconies,’ says Thomas Schimmel, client representative and CEO of Wohnungsgenossenschaft München West.

The prefabricated balconies with their striking curves are suspended from the cantilevered parapet, connected via tension rods and anchored to the façade at certain points using lugs. The supports, some of which are still in place, only serve as temporary assembly aids until everything is firmly connected. An elegant solution that eliminates the need for elevation in the courtyard.
