Construction site update – Yellow Block in Munich's Westend
March 13, 2025

The urban redensification of the co-operative apartment block continues!
The prefabricated elements in modular timber construction allow the two additional storeys with 45 new flats to be built quickly:
- the flats have been gradually being occupied since November last year
- in the first quarter of 2025, we were able to hand over another ten new flats
- the additional storeys will be fully occupied by June
At the same time, the 169 existing flats are being refurbished during ongoing operations:
- new lifts and balconies on the existing floors will increase the quality of living
- energy-efficient refurbishment of the existing façade
- new communal areas will also be created: a former shop unit on Georg-Freundorfer-Platz will be converted into a neighbourhood meeting place

We had the opportunity to interview the client's representative Thomas Schimmel, CEO of Wohnungsgenossenschaft München-West eG, about the current project:
"With the ‘Gelber Block’ project in Munich's Westend, we are fulfilling our mission to design and develop sustainable quality of life with energy-efficient buildings, barrier-free apartments and attractive neighbourhoods in existing buildings."
"Our aspiration to develop existing buildings in a future-oriented way that works for residents for generations is consistently realised by zillerplus at various levels:
- through the ecological sustainability of construction and choice of materials
- the focus on economic operation over the entire utilisation phase
- through empathy for the spatial and atmospheric needs of current and future residents."
Thank you very much for this appreciative statement. We look forward to continuing our trusting collaboration!
