The demand for living space in growing cities is constantly increasing. The urban densification of existing buildings – such as here in the Gelber Block in Munich's Westend district – utilises already built-up areas and avoids additional soil sealing. On the roof of the 1930s block of flats, 45 new flats are being built using modular timber construction. At the same time, 168 existing flats are being renovated to make them more energy efficient. New lifts and 120 balconies will further enhance the quality of living.

The client of the project is the socially orientated housing cooperative München-West eG, which is committed to the preservation and creation of affordable housing in Munich and the surrounding area.

BR24 visited our building site and shows how affordable and sustainable living space is being created.
