Meeting place

Neighbourhood meeting place of 1000 possibilities

A neighbourhood centre is space – not rooms; a pavilion, not a house. The challenge here was to give this space multidimensionality of usage. The experimental arrangement for this was to create a shell with a neutral interior. Requirements for this are the roof, a physical barrier and the necessary, minimised infrastructure as well as curtains for a staging of the space. Usage and building size remind one of an architectural prototype, the pavilion. This offers the chance of linking well-known themes with space fantasies and thus achieving a complex normality in the building. The pavilion is also characterised by its relation to nature and the environment – a strong linkage between the interior and the exterior.

The neighbourhood centre serves as a self-help institution and lives from the active and committed efforts of the local people. The aim is the activation of civic involvement in the area.

A sustainable technical concept with heat pump and thermal activation of the ceilings as well as lighting and furnishings that enable the most varied room usage and arrangements prepare the building for ever-changing use over many years. One special feature are the room-dividing, acoustically effective curtains, which create a very special atmosphere.
